Dear UF College of Education:

In May 2021, after four years of leadership and service as a student at the University of Florida, I will be graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in African American Studies with a double minor in innovation and education. I learned about this opportunity as an undergraduate student at The University of Florida while minoring in education. Within my education minor, I had the opportunity to work as an intern for the Department of Children and Families as an administrative assistant.  As an assistant, I helped lower-income families receive aid for food, housing, and additional income for necessities such as bills. I was referred to the Maxey Community Center in Winter Garden, Fl by the POPS, Program which is a Professional Opportunities Program for Students which I was a part of in high school. I strongly believe that my education and previous internship experience qualify me for this position during my undergrad, I developed the skills to be able to communicate, teach and also integrate technology into education. I work great under pressure, I love children and I am able to effectively teach students despite the conditions of COVID, successfully allowing students to receive a proper

education with integration and accessibility to technology. As an administrative assistant, I met

families who lacked the necessities needing to be successful whether it being transportation or food for their families. During my time at Maxey Community Center, I was able to aid families into fully-funded programs to help families get their children to and from school with free daycare (depending on the age) with assistance while the parent works. Working with children who come from a rough background and offering services to help them become successful is the ultimate goal of my career. I want to leave an impact on these children that breaks generational curses rather than lingering them.

As a student applying to the University of Florida College of Education for Early

Childhood Education in pursuit of my master’s degree, to become an elementary school teacher

specifically 1st or 2nd grade. UF’s College of Education is the highest-ranked College of Education in the state and among public education schools in the Southeast. Further, the college is a leader in online learning, having been ranked No. 1 or No. 2  for online graduate programs for the past three years. I am interested in pursuing a master’s with a Florida teaching certification. I am in my last year of undergrad, the next steps I have to take to be able to teach in the state of Florida would be to hold at least a bachelor's degree, obtain Florida’s teaching certification, obtain a position within a Florida school of my choice, submit fingerprints for a background check and pass, prove content knowledge through degree and course requirements and pass the appropriate subject area examination.

As a proven leader with an exceptional experience, I am submitting my application for consideration to UF College of Education in pursuit of my master’s degree. If you would like to discuss my qualifications further, please feel free to contact me at (407) 963-3767 or at Tianabrown29@icloud.com. Thank you so much for your time and consideration. I look forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely,

Tiana Brown
